The Great Word Quest from PBS Kids Go! is an exciting team competition that helps kids learn new words. Kids work together to complete quests, earn trophies, ribbons and word gems. They can create silly stories, play with their word gems, and even be featured in the “Team Gallery” that displays for everyone to see in the Team Headquarters. There are fun, original games like Pirate Treasure and Monkey Jump that focus on different literacy skills, which are then tracked in the Progress Tracker where parents can see what their kids have been learning while playing on the site.
All of the voiceover included in the application and games was scripted, recorded and edited at the Smashing Ideas Studio (Remember this?). Beyond development of the concept and the overarching application, in collaboration with PBS, Smashing Ideas built the Drupal-based CMS that manages quests, all word gems, and posting user generated content.
