We are excited to announce that Belo Corp.’s WeatherCaster app was named the best intelligence, information and reference app by the 2012 Tabby Awards! As we shared with you before, we worked with the great team at Belo Corp. to develop the award-winning app.
If you haven’t already, be sure to check it out. It will be especially handy this winter with the most up to date weather conditions and forecast.
Over the past few years, there has been incredible growth in the opportunities we have to engage with customers using digital. We’ve quickly moved from a world of flash microsites made for viewing on a computer to a multi-screen world, where people expect and demand more from their experiences with companies and brands. They expect the content to be relevant to them; engaging and optimized for the screen they are in front of – all with the ability to seamlessly shift to the other screens in their lives. Lately we’ve been working with companies to plan and build these “connected experiences,” which has led to some thoughts and best practices around how to approach it for your business.
We are excited to share with you the new Belo Corp. weather forecast experience, WeatherCaster for iPad!
Belo came to Smashing Ideas with the desire to create a weather app to reflect their top-notch meteorologists and satisfy their audiences’ needs and expectations for a better weather forecast.
We worked closely with the Belo team to build an experience that takes weather forecasts to the next level and next screen to not only satisfy the needs of Belo’s local audience, but a national one.
We built a robust product that takes advantage of Belo’s trusted on-air meteorologists, provides in-depth weather forecasts, severe weather alerts, animated radar and interactive maps – all in retina-enhanced high definition. We learned Belo’s most active weather aficionados wanted to participate in the forecast, so we built social components into their app and gave users the ability to collect, post and share their favorite weather photos and videos in a social community setting.
You can check out the new WeatherCaster in the video below or in iTunes where Apple already featured it as a top weather app in their Weather category!
