Ultimate Sharks!

September 9th, 2011 No comments »

Creating a definitive application on sharks is no easy feat, but when MyDiscovery asks you to be their partner on the endeavor, you know it will be a very deep dive into treacherous waters to bring these creature to life on the iPad.

Working with the amazing team at MyDiscovery, Smashing co-created Ultimate Sharks, an immediate #1 Book Application in the App Store and the iPad App of the Week for the week of 7/29-8/4. 3D sharks, attack stories, over 3 hours of video, more than 250 photos, Airplay enabled and a handy GPS locator to let the user know that they are (or are not), far away from where the these deadly creatures have struck (ah, a slight sense of security). One of our first apps to be rated 17+ on the app store, so not for the little ones!

Check it out at the App Store and take a swim, if you dare.

Framing Creativity in Seattle

September 9th, 2011 No comments »

Seattle is a hotbed of creativity, inspiration and innovation. The American Advertising Federation/Seattle strives to challenge our collective creative power and community, raising the bar for Seattle’s creative work. Their efforts through events such as tonight’s Art Bash are perfect examples of celebrating our industry’s innovation and creative lifeblood. This year’s theme, “Framing Creativity in Seattle,” challenges the definition of creativity and pushes us to think about it differently; something our client’s brands are asked to do every day to stay relevant in people’s lives.

With emerging technology top of mind, Smashing Ideas created a piece using the simple frame-like squares and shapes that make up QR codes. We were inspired by these frames and put a new twist on it by adding some Seattle flair.

Congrats to all the agencies who participated and thanks for inviting SI to contribute!

Witness the fiendish game that is “The Revenge of Dr. Blowhole!” Assume the role of Dr. Blowhole and use your insidious *MIND JACKER* clown-head to steal Skipper’s memories and secrets (in the world of Penguins this all makes sense). This is a fun connect-3 game developed to support this special episode. Watch for the secret code on-air on Nick September 5 for a special secret unlock!

Little Golden Books Interactive!

August 28th, 2011 1 comment »

We all had the books growing up. We all remember the golden spine, the feel of the covers and the pages, and nostalgia for the timeless stories and artwork. Now Random House’s Little Golden Books are on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch with the first release of the beloved The Poky Little Puppy. Working closely with our friends at Random House, we have brought storytime to life once again for a new generation of kids (and all the kids-at-heart). With options for reading to your child, listening to the narrated story, or recording your own narration, interactive illustrations, hide and seek challenges, personalization, and of course, stickers!

We loved working on this app and crafting an experience that stays true to the original Little Golden Book. Check it out at iTunes!

Smashing Games Launch on FunGoPlay!

June 21st, 2011 No comments »

FunGoPlay is a new online sports-themed virtual world, which includes four original games by Smashing Ideas! The FGP master plan is to bridge online play and real life with Sports Gears — physical sports equipment connected to the FGP Online World. Play soccer or frisbee in the park and unlock game bonuses in the FGP world! Their mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle by encouraging people to exercise by linking real life activities to online achievements.  Check it out at http://www.fungoplay.com/.

Smashing Ideas has enjoyed working with the teams FGP since the very beginning, developing original games and contributing to the evolution of their robust framework. The FGP vision was to feature individual player avatars in each game, which means that players always appear as themselves, complete with custom appearance and clothing. This requires pulling in sprite sheets generated on-the-fly for each game session and makes for a far greater user experience. We’ve collaborated with their teams since before the private Beta, iterating like mad on game design while ensuring the games worked seamlessly with their backend solutions. We’re proud to have contributed four great games the FGP universe. Go Play ‘em!
