Two WebAwards for Smashing Ideas

Smashing Ideas, along with Mattel and Thirteen/WNET New York, won two WebAwards earlier this week. These awards recognize talented individual and team efforts in outstanding Website development.

Polly Pocket Website Redesign

Mattel and Smashing Ideas were awarded the “Best Entertainment Website” honor for PollyPocket.com, which launched in April. Best websites are selected by judges who review design, ease of use, copywriting, interactivity, use of technology, innovation, and content. Our competition in this category included Razorfish, Leo Burnett Chicago, National Geographic Channel, and Disney Online, so we were thrilled to come out on top.

Thirteen/WNET New York and Smashing Ideas were awarded the “Education Standard of Excellence” honor for the Cyberchase website.

Thanks to the Web Marketing Association for our shiny new WebAward honors!

pat the bunny® and Alice for iPad featured in Entertainment Weekly

This week’s Entertainment Weekly picked five apps to feature as “Fabulous Kids’ Books.” We were excited to see that both pat the bunny®, and Smashing Ideas’ Director of ePublishing Ben Robert’s still groundbreaking Alice for iPad, were among the select few.

Smashing Ideas is honored by the recognition. We hope the readers enjoy both eBooks as much!

Super Why! Transmedia Suite is a Super Celebration!

Funded by a Ready To Learn grant awarded to PBS by the Department of Education, Smashing Ideas partnered with long-term clients Out of the Blue and PBS KIDS to develop a SUPER WHY! branded Transmedia Gaming Suite consisting of four activities: two online games, and iPhone app and an Interactive Whiteboard Activity. All of the activities share common literacy-based curricular objectives, but what makes the Transmedia Suite unique is that the activities feature engaging narratives and game experiences that tie all of the components together with a common premise and theme…SUPER CELEBRATIONS! Throughout the four activities, players practice skills such as Word Formation, Phoneme Recognition, Rhyming and Reading…all while getting to the celebration, making a cake and decorating!

Little Golden Books Interactive!

We all had the books growing up. We all remember the golden spine, the feel of the covers and the pages, and nostalgia for the timeless stories and artwork. Now Random House’s Little Golden Books are on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch with the first release of the beloved The Poky Little Puppy. Working closely with our friends at Random House, we have brought storytime to life once again for a new generation of kids (and all the kids-at-heart). With options for reading to your child, listening to the narrated story, or recording your own narration, interactive illustrations, hide and seek challenges, personalization, and of course, stickers!

We loved working on this app and crafting an experience that stays true to the original Little Golden Book. Check it out at iTunes!

pat the bunny® Interactive!

Just in time for spring, a childhood classic is hopping onto the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch.

Designed especially for toddlers and preschoolers, the app features 14 fully interactive scenes your kids can tap, swipe, and explore. Working closely with the team at Random House, Smashing Ideas took full advantage of the iPad offerings, including a special feature for the iPad 2 and iOS devices with front-facing cameras that prompt kids, to their delight and surprise, to “look in the mirror” and see their smiling reflection.

Watch and listen, read at your own pace, or record your own voice to play read back to you. Pat The Bunny for iPad is an example of how a truly wonderful story can be brought to life through interaction. Enjoy!
